Environmental Movie Night - "Thin Ice - The Inside Story of Climate Science" 12/04/14
Website: http://thiniceclimate.org (73 min.)
"Thin Ice" is the brainchild of geologist and amateur cameraman Simon Lamb. His concerns about the attacks against climate scientists and their work led him to make the film with the help of award-winning documentary director and producer David Sington. An illuminating film that looks at work being done around the planet by atmospheric physicists, paleoclimatologists, oceanographers, engineers, biochemists and other researchers that understandably explains global warming.
* Lamb came up with three questions that he wanted his film to answer: Who are these climate scientists? What are they saying? And, do they know what they are talking about?
* More specifically, what kind of studies led scientists to believe that humans are affecting the earth's climate by emitting excessive
amounts of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide?
* To answer his questions, he sought out the scientists themselves, hung out for months at their research stations, laboratories, and
offices, and talked to them about their work.

Bethabara Park Hike and Clean Up 11-9-14
Today, November 8th, Earth Club took a trip to Bathabra Historic Park. Sixty five degrees and sunny, it was the perfect day to take a walk through the woods and enjoy the falling leaves and everything nature has to offer. In order to preserve its beauty, Earth Club members walked the trails and searched through the fallen leaves to pick up as much garbage as they could find. The Earth Club was very successful and found bottles under bushes, plastic under plants, and even a milk jug in the muddy creek. Earth Club filled about six to seven grocery bags full of liter and disposed of it properly. The Bathabra Welcome Center administers were nothing but grateful and delighted that the club spent their time making the park and the world a better place. A lot of times we forget how easy it is to make a difference, but it is extremely enjoyable and fulfilling to spend time with friends and also know that even your small actions can make a huge difference. It is so easy to go out for a walk with friends and just pick up a little as you go. It's really the least we can do for such a wonderful planet that shares its beauty with us every day.

First Environmental Movie of the Year: Unacceptable Levels
On Friday, Morgan, Jessica and Deena went to Temple Emanuel to see a showing of Unacceptable Levels. They got to review this film before it came out and fill out surveys about what they thought of it. The movie was about the chemicals that are being put into our bodies and into the environment. It was a wake up call for some of us who had no idea about it. And motivated everyone to do anything they could do to change it.
